PLAYER PLACEMENT
TRYOUTS AND PLAYER
EVALUATION
Tryouts occur in mid to late June and late October at the conclusion of the Spring and Fall seasons. It is the goal of UVSF to work consistently and transparently to assess player performance. Coaches, assistant coaches, and other individuals selected to participate in the player evaluation process objectively assess each player’s skill and performance based on physical, technical, and tactical abilities using the UVSF Board approved Player Evaluation Tool
PLAYER SELECTION AND
TEAM FORMATION
UVSF’s goal is to support each team & player in developing and competing at the highest possible level. The club holds a player selection / team formation meeting immediately after tryouts. Under the supervision of the UVSF Board, coaches and assistant coaches consider the following factors when selecting players and forming teams.
- Player performance / evaluation during tryouts
- Player’s age
- The number of players permitted on a roster for each age group
RECOMMENDED TEAM ROSTER SIZE
FLEXIBLE/ FLUID TEAM
ROSTERS
After tryouts and initial player placement, team rosters are still considered flexible and fluid throughout the season. This means that based on team needs, player development, or player performance during practices and games that players can be asked to practice or play with another squad within the club. In other words, any player’s placement on one team or squad at the beginning of the season does not ensure that they will remain on the same team or squad during the rest of the season.
Player’s Not Selected During Tryouts
Ideally, every player who tries out would make a team. However, this is not always possible due to varied skill levels of players and the number of (a) players trying out, (b) teams, and (c) qualified coaches. Players who attend tryouts that are not selected for a team will be placed on a “potential players” list. If before teams are finalized and registered, and the number of “potential players” is sufficient to warrant another team and if a qualified, board-approved coach is available, then another team can be formed.
Players not selected during tryouts who are interested in playing for the club in a future season are responsible for their own training and development (i.e...seeking out other playing opportunities, feedback or training from qualified individuals outside of the club). AYSO has teams up to U14 and is open for all players.
